IME Education

Following four years of promoting Manufacturing and Engineering, the Inside Manufacturing Education Project is poised to play an important role in supporting the new Diplomas which are available from September 2008. The future prosperity of our Nation will depend on our ability to sustain modern cutting edge Engineering and Manufacturing. This will be reliant on the quantity and quality of specialist workforce to carry us forward in an increasingly International marketplace.

Our project recruits host companies who can offer an on-site visit to support students on Engineering and ManufactuSchool visitring courses. Students need a real experience of seeing engineering and manufacturing to bring their studies alive and give them inspiration for their future careers.

We have a range of companies throughout the West Midlands who have a vested interest in the potential of their future workforce. They open their doors to small groups of students and show-off their processes and products to the young people.

The target group within schools and colleges have made an initial choice to study Engineeing and Manufacturing and we aim to support them in their studies to give them the opportunity to ‘see for themselves’ – there is nothing like a personal experience to bring their studies to life!

Are you a modern Manufacturing or Engineering company of which would be proud to share its expertise with the workforce of the future?

We are always looking for new hosts who can offer a short (about 1 ½ hour) visit for small groups of students (typically 12). Our network of partners throughout the West Midlands would be keen to meet you to discuss the potential.

Have you got students on Engineering or Manufacturing courses? – would you like them to have an experience to enhance their learning and inspire their future career decisions?

The current hosts are detailed on the website with the negotiated itinerary of the visit and suggestions of the courses that would benefit. Contact the partner organisation for your area – they will act as booking agent between yourselves and the host. There are Risk Assessments for the visits and funds to help with supply cover/ transport.

Supported learning there are Case Studies downloadable on the website for some of the hosts that are suitable as preparation for/ follow-up of a visit.
