Inside Manufacturing Enterprise (IME) is a regional company visit programme designed to give employers and schools access to some of the best manufacturing and engineering companies in the West Midlands. The programme has been running since 2003 and in April 2007 it become part of the Manufacturing Advisory Service West Midlands (MAS-WM) offerings, managed by Coventry University Enterprises Ltd (CUE).
Structured visits to host companies give an insight into how they have implemented certain strategies, processes and how the host company has met specific regional challenges. Ideas and inspiration gained can be used to implement new practices and promote more effective processes in manufacturing companies throughout the region. All parts of the programme have been designed to raise the industry's profile and promote innovation and enterprise across the region.
The IME programme offers two types of structured visits to Best Practice manufacturing companies within the West Midlands region.
Co-ordinated by Coventry University Enterprises Ltd, these visits are designed for businesses to share knowledge and experience with leading regional organisations that have implemented successful strategies and processes. The ideas and inspiration gained can then be used to implement new practices and promote more effective processes in manufacturing and engineering companies therefore promoting productivity and increasing wealth to the region.
Co-ordinated by Be Together Ltd and Staffordshire Setpoint, these visits offer young people the chance to visit companies within the region to show them a broad view of manufacturing and engineering and challenge their preconceptions. Each of the visits is co-ordinated to directly impact upon the student’s course of study, promote innovation and enterprise and to increase aspirations towards a future within manufacturing and engineering. These visits also provide teachers and tutors with an additional valuable tool to accompany their teaching and to illustrate the national curriculum.
