Please note: Due to the current economic climate this visit is now free of charge
Now the largest independent manufacturing operation of its kind in Europe, Precision Micro specialises in the manufacture of precision flat profile and three dimensional components for automotive, communications, aerospace, electronics, medical, military and other ‘high tech’ engineering applications. Precision Micro offer a unique range of manufacturing technologies including Photo Etching, Wire EDM, Electroforming, Forming, Finishing and Micro Machining, used individually or in combination, to the ultimate benefit of customers.
This visit will illustrate how a 40 year manufacturing facility has adapted to its customers requirements by highlighting and redesigning its processes to optimise efficiencies and capabilities. You will learn some of the problems encountered and how Precision Micro are investing in both their staff and continuous improvement programmes to develop a structured methodology to enable further future growth.
Specialist Topic Area-Rapid Prototyping with Mass Flexibility
For over 40 years Precision Micro has been a pioneer of "alternative" manufacturing technologies… technologies that meet the ever more demanding requirements of modern design. High precision components are manufactured using low cost digital and modular tooling giving the designer increased flexibility and a pioneering a 3-Dpc forming process in response to customer demands for three dimensional precision components in a rapid time frame. 'Customer specific' cells have increased efficiency as well as bring huge benefits to customers such as enhanced precision and repeatability.
Specialist Topic Area-Continuous Improvement & Future Development
Precision Micro's purpose built manufacturing facility near Fort Dunlop, Birmingham has become the catalyst for a continuous improvement programme geared towards developing a leaner manufacturing operation. The entire workforce will are instrumental in setting parameters for process improvement with factory teams placed for a number of months to become ‘sensei’s’ or teachers, who will in turn filter key lean principles such as 5S and Kaizen into the work force.
