The name Armitage Shanks has long been synonymous with quality British Bathrooms. The company’s roots can be traced back to 1850 when the first sanitaryware was manufactured. After investing £9 million pounds since 2001, the Rugeley site gives an in depth view of the process technology of High Pressure Automated Casting using Resin Moulds. Armitage Shanks are the only sanitaryware manufacturers in the UK that uses this system producing in the region of 1.6 million pieces per year. The visit also gives students the opportunity to view traditional methods of casting using Plaster Moulds, Automated Spraying with an Xtract Glaze Recycling System, Firing Process through Kilns leading to the final stage of Quality Control and Inspection. Diploma students studying Manufacturing and Product Design would find the visit of great benefit in terms of production planning and product manufacture
