Goodwin Steel Castings Ltd, based in Stoke-on-Trent, England, has been a supplier of machined castings for 120 years. This company is still on the original site and was the first company to be formed in the Goodwin PLC group back in 1883. Goodwin has traditionally won many large orders for machined castings in the range of ½ to 2.5 million pounds in value. These individual orders are invariably for large construction projects or for major equipment builders which, in both instances need on time delivery of assured high integrity product. Examples of major projects supplied by Goodwin are the Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong and Jangyin Bridge in China. Over 1.1 million pounds worth of stainless steel castings were supplied for the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Stock Exchange building. The Goodwin foundry designs and manufactures castings up to 10 tonnes in weight, producing liquid steel in its five melting furnaces. Material inspection and testing are carried out and castings are X-rayed using an 8.5 million electron volt linear accelerator.
